Provenance

Rooted in Geneva

The Poinçon de Genève certifies the Geneva provenance of every watch bearing the distinction. This connection anchors each timepiece in a place whose history, culture and savoir-faire are inseparably linked to watchmaking.

Only mechanical watches assembled, adjusted, cased up and inspected within the Canton of Geneva are eligible for the Poinçon de Genève.

Certified origin

Provenance is the first commitment of the Poinçon de Genève. It confirms that a timepiece's connection to Geneva rests not only on its name, but on the essential stages of its creation. Assembly, adjustment, casing-up and final inspection must all take place in the canton. This requirement roots every certified watch in a place, a history and a tradition of savoir-faire.

Geneva, birthplace of fine watchmaking

Since the 16th century, Geneva has enjoyed a singular relationship with time. In its workshops, precision of hand gradually merged with the pursuit of beauty, giving rise to a watchmaking tradition defined by exceptional standards. Generation after generation, this savoir-faire has shaped the identity of a city now inseparable from fine watchmaking.

A tradition looking to the future

Geneva today brings together historic manufactures, independent watchmaking houses, artisans, engineers and institutions in an exceptional watchmaking ecosystem. Heritage and innovation are in constant dialogue. The Poinçon de Genève forms part of this continuity, reminding us that provenance is more than a geographical condition: it is the expression of a living watchmaking culture.
